Resident Lecturer at United Muslim Masjid
Abu Muhammad Abdur-Ra’uf Shakir is an Islamic lecturer, translator, educator, and da’wah worker with decades of service in teaching Islam and supporting Muslim communities. Born and raised in New York City, he embraced Islam in 1975 and later participated in a special Da’wah Training Program at Umm al-Qura University in Makkah. After returning to the United States, he became active in the Muslim community of New York and was one of the founders of Masjid at-Taqwa in Brooklyn. He served in da’wah, education, and community administration, helping establish programs that benefited both new and practicing Muslims. Abu Muhammad Abdur-Ra’uf Shakir spent years studying and living in Muslim countries, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Sudan, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar. He completed his Arabic studies in Madinah and later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Hadeeth and Islamic Studies at the Islamic University of Madinah. He has contributed to the translation and editing of Islamic writings, essays, and fatawa from Arabic into English, including works connected to major scholars of Ahlus-Sunnah. His efforts in teaching, translation, and da’wah have made his work beneficial to English-speaking Muslims seeking authentic Islamic knowledge.
